First Aid Brisbane pride themselves on offering a huge choice of the most up to date first aid courses available and are pleased to offer MHFA- Mental Health First Aid courses. With 3.2 million people ( 1 in 5 people) in Australia experiencing a mental illness in any given year, raising awareness about mental illness and educating people on how to spot the signs and symptoms of a mental health issue is crucial.
For workplaces, mental health training will raise the level of awareness and teach staff how early intervention can be critical. It will help you safeguard your staff and your workplace by providing skills and knowledge to support those experiencing mental health issues. Many people delay seeking help for mental health problems, but if they're surrounded by colleagues who have completed Mental Health First Aid training, they'll have the meaningful and potentially lifesaving support needed to find the treatment to overcome their condition.
MHFA is accredited through Mental Health Australia, which is part of the International Mental Health Program, which uses evidence-based and scientifically proven research methods to help evaluate and distribute knowledge and the best practice for Mental Health First Aid. All Mental Health First Aid course facilitators need to undertake rigorous training with Mental Health Australia and need to be certified to teach the course.
The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course covers how to recognise the signs and symptoms of some common mental illnesses including anxiety and depression, psychosis and substance abuse. The course provides you with all the skills and knowledge you need to approach a person to talk about mental health issues, how to encourage people to seek help and where to go for professional help. You’ll also be given a detailed Mental Health manual, which covers all the course content and lists all the different resources and professional help available, so you always have something to refer to if needed.
Depending on your profession, this course could contribute to your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, please check with your relevant industry body for more information.
